Get ready, set your timer, and GO!

  • 20 jumping jacks
  •   10 squats
  •   5 push-ups

3. Lace-up your skates and enjoy a local rink

Skating can be a great way to get outside and embrace our Canadian winter. Lace-up your skates, put on your helmets, and enjoy the fun of gliding on the ice as a family.

4. Play your favourite family board game

When it’s too cold to play outside, board games can be a great way to spend quality time indoors. Do you have a favourite game that you like to play as a family? Or maybe it’s the perfect opportunity to try a new board game together!

5. Bake some cookies. Can you find a healthier recipe?

We love baking cookies as a fun family-friendly indoor winter activity! Try to find a healthier cookie recipe and bake up some memories together.

6. Is it snowing yet? Build a snow family!

Nothing says winter like building things with snow! Get outside and build a snowman, snow-woman, or a snow-family! Your family can bring their own personality and creativity to their creations. What can you choose to make the eyes, ears, and nose?

7. Play tic-tac-SNOW!

Play a giant game of tic-tac-toe outside! Draw the board in the snow and use anything you can find to make the Xs and Os. Try using twigs or sticks to make Xs, and acorns or pinecones for Os!

8. Make faces on tree trunks with snow!

Use snow to press into tree trunks and make funny faces. Get creative and see how many different expressions you can make!

9. Too cold out? Make an indoor obstacle course

We get it, sometimes it is just too cold to head outside. If it’s one of those days, get creative and find some ways to get active indoors! We love making obstacle courses using couch cushions and other things you find around your house to jump or crawl under.

You can even play a game of “the floor is lava”. Use your imagination to get across the room without touching the floor!

10. Make snow angels

Fresh snowfall? We love jumping in freshly fallen snow to make snow angels and fun patterns.  Bonus points if you can laugh while you make them!

11. Free space!

Make up your own activity, or use this as a bonus to complete your card!

12. Are you a sports lover? Play a game of soccer in the snow or play catch with a snowball!

Get creative and adapt your favourite summer sport to winter! Snow soccer, snow baseball, or even snowball catch can give them a fun winter spin!

13. Art day! Paint, draw, or make a collage

Making art is a fun way to pass the time, and it’s a great way to promote creativity, build fine motor skills, and develop problem-solving abilities in kids.

Try these fun ideas:

  • Print out colouring pages from the internet
  • Create birthday cards for friends or family that you can send in the mail
  • Get a small canvas from the dollar store. Your kids will have fun creating a new art piece they can hang in their room!
  • Use a large piece of paper and create an original family art-piece! Divide into squares so you all have your own section to design

14. Prepare a warming meal together

When it’s cold out, nothing is more comforting than a hot meal to warm you and your kids up from the inside out. Find a recipe and cook it with your family! We love to make soups and stews in the winter months.

15. Go tobogganing (Don’t forget a hot drink!)

If you have enough snow, find a local hill, grab your sleds, and get sliding! Walking up the hill is a great exercise that gets your heart rate up, and going down the hill is so much fun! Warm-up inside with a hot drink after for a special treat.

16. Go for a night walk! Let the snow light your way

Winter walks can be so much fun as a family, especially when there is freshly fallen snow. Take your walk one step further (pun intended) by heading out at dusk or in the early evening. Bundle up and notice how different things can look when the sun has set and the stars are shining!

Use the Skyview® App to find constellations in the night sky while you walk! You can download it for Apple or Android phones.
